Linksys AC3000 Setup

Linksys AC3000 Setup

Linksys AC3000 WiFi range extender helps to extend the WiFi range of existing router to reach hard-to-access areas. The extender upon setting up is made to sit at the boundary line of the router’s range. From there the extender takes in the router’s signals and expands them further thereby widening the range.

Linksys AC3000 Setup Modes

Your Linksys extender AC3000 can be used in two modes:

  • Access Point Mode – The extender works as an access point by connecting to the main router using an Ethernet connection.
  • Extender Mode – The extender is used to extend the router’s signals by connecting to it wirelessly.

How to Set Up Linksys AC3000 in Extender Mode?

We have two different ways to get this job executed. One is the WPS method and the second one involves logging in to the web interface on a browser. We have described both these methods in the further sections.

AC3000 Setup as Wireless Extender via WPS

  • Place the extender close enough to the root router to have smooth signal transmission.
  • Plug the extender in and turn it on. The LED will blink in green
  • When the LED blinks in orange, you can proceed to connect the devices.
  • Press the WPS button on the router.
  • Push the WPS button located at the side of the extender. Do not delay for more than 2 minutes after you press the button on the router.
  • You will notice the WPS LED blinking green.
  • The light turns green which implies the connection is successful.

NOTE: In case the WPS light turns orange, the connection fails. You can bring the devices closer and then attempt to connect them using the same procedure.

AC3000 Setup as Wireless Extender via Web Interface

  • The Linksys extender should be placed halfway between the root router and the area with no WiFi.
  • Plug in the devices and supply power.
  • Connect your computer to the WiFi network Linksys Extender Setup. This is the default SSID for your Linksys AC3000.
  • Visit extender.linksys.com or 192.168.1.1 on a supported and up-to-date internet browser.
  • Click on Start Setup button.
  • Select “As a wireless range extender.”
  • Select the main router’s wireless network from the list.
  • Insert its WiFi password.
  • Configure wireless settings for the Linksys extender now.
  • Create SSID and WiFi passwords for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks.
  • Use Spot Finder to choose an ideal location for the extender. Move it accordingly and ensure that it is shifted to the best possible location.
  • Now secure your network by creating an admin password.
  • Next, register your device by entering your email address.
  • Save the settings and you’re done with Linksys AC3000 setup as a wireless range extender.

How to Set Up AC3000 as Access Point (Wired Extender)?

In this, you need to access the Linksys extender login page on a web browser and make a wired connection between the extender and the main router. Therefore, have an Ethernet cable long enough to link two devices.

  • Plug in and power on the devices.
  • The light on the extender will turn from green to orange. Wait until then.
  • Connect the LAN port on the router to the Internet port on the Linksys extender.
  • Now, connect your computer to the extender’s WiFi SSID Linksys Extender Setup. You can also connect them using a LAN cable.
  • Launch Linksys Setup by visiting extender.linksys.com or 192.168.1.1 on a browser.
  • Select Start Setup.
  • Choose As a wired range extender (access point).

The rest steps will be the same as provided in the previous method. This way you can complete Linksys AC3000 setup as an access point.

What If Linksys Extender Setup Failed?

If you fail to set up your Linksys extender, use the troubleshooting steps given ahead:

  • If setting up the extender in access point mode, ensure to connect the extender to the main router with a good Ethernet cable. Make a firm and secure connection.
  • Put to use an updated internet browser and clear its cache beforehand.
  • Ensure to connect to the Linksys extender’s network to launch the Linksys extender setup wizard.
  • Prefer connecting your computer via a LAN cable to prevent network disconnections.
  • Make certain that the power supply is consistent throughout.
  • Turn off VPN connections on your computer.
  • If your router has the MAC filtering feature turned on, then add the extender’s IP to the allowed list.

If you are still stuck and can’t proceed with the extender setup then try this:

Power Cycle the Devices

  • Unplug the wireless extender and let it stay unplugged.
  • Power off the root router as well.
  • Remove the Ethernet cable if used.
  • Wait for a couple of minutes.
  • Plug back the router first.
  • Next plug in the extender.

Try to set up the Linksys WiFi extender now.

Reset AC3000 WiFi Extender

In case the setup does not happen even after you have tried all the above steps and power cycled the network, then resetting is the final option.

  • Detach all the cables from AC3000.
  • Only the power cable must remain connected.
  • Press the Reset pinhole using a sharp pointed object. You can use an oil pin.
  • Hold the button for 10 seconds minimum.

The default settings are restored back on your Linksys extender now. You should try to set it up once again now.

After you are done with the extender setup, configure various settings on the extender by logging in.
